El último descendiente de Abraham Lincoln

Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith (July 19, 1904 – December 24, 1985) was the great-grandson of Abraham Lincoln. In 1975, he became the last descendant of Lincoln when his sister, “Peggy” Beckwith, died without children. He did not attend college, yet was said to have earned a degree from the National University Law School (founded 1869 and merged to with George Washington University Law School in 1954) as an attorney. Despite this, he tended to list his profession as a “gentleman farmer of independent means” rather than as a lawyer. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, which resulted in a lasting hobby in boating and sailing. He generally avoided the media and publicity. On one occasion, he stated that his real interests were boats, cars, and living a semi-wild life.

Beckwith’s first marriage, which lasted 30 years, was to an older widow whose son was only ten years his junior. His second wife had a child and named him Timothy Lincoln Beckwith, after his supposed father, but the claim was considered inconclusive after she refused for herself and her son to take blood tests.[4] Robert Beckwith lived most of his life in Vermont and Washington, D.C. Robert “Bob” Beckwith died at the age of 81 on December 24, 1985 at around 6:05 pm, the last undisputed descendant of Abraham Lincoln.

Cuestiones de población y estadística

Alemania

“And the population decline is about to get much worse, as a result of a demographic time bomb known by the innocuous-sounding name “the kink,” which followed the end of Communism. The birth rate collapsed in the former East Germany in those early, uncertain years so completely that the drop is comparable only to times of war, according to Reiner Klingholz, director of the Berlin Institute for Population and Development. “For a number of years East Germans just stopped having children,” Dr. Klingholz said.”

Irán

“When the Iranian monarchy was overthrown in 1979, the leaders of the new Islamic republic drew attention to a tenet of the Quran that encourages early marriage and large families. Population growth became part of the national agenda, with incentives to reward families for each additional child. Everything from TVs to cars to food was distributed on a per capita basis through a rationing system, making it advantageous to have many children. These incentives remained in place through the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War, when population growth was viewed as a strategic advantage: more children, more future soldiers.”

A los gringos se les pierde una bomba-A

“More than 50 years after a 7,600lb (3,500kg) nuclear bomb was dropped in US waters following a mid-air military collision, the question of whether the missing weapon still poses a threat remains.”

Qué es la libertad

“By real freedom, Hegel meant not doing whatever one wants but having the freedom from societal conditioning and the fatuous whirl of desires by using reason. If you come across someone who manages to be really free in this sense in either capitalistic or strict Islamic society then send me their names so we can celebrate their escape.”
